I think "AI artist" is such a humbling phrase towards them. Cambridge dictionary says an artist is someone who paints, draws, or makes sculptures.
Writing lines of commands doesn't count as an artist, that's a commander. Not out of spite but for clarification, I think AI user or AI prompter might be most proper.
Generative AIs were born to fake something, rather than be inspired by something. It's always been a tool for demonstration, no matter its quality, good or bad.
It might help you as a reference to roughly understand something you wanted to learn, but it can't be your art because it isn't your process. It's just another demo.
Your art without your own execution is rather dreaming, and anybody can dream. Trying to make it look like it's art is rather deceptive, and who likes getting tricked?
The more you deceive, the more you get hatred. In other words, the more your efforts are put in, the more you get acknowledged.
See, I've seen one honest NSFW prompter with a lot of followers. Even actual artists follow them too, and I think there are reasons for it.
First, they stated in their profile bio that they use AI. Deceiving isn't their main goal.
Second, they actually practiced accuracy and interesting ideas. They even give careful brush strokes in WIP posts in order to guide the machine and fix the flaws.
While I wish this guy had just tried drawing on their own, that is a noticeable amount of dedication. Everything just clicks to call this guy an artist, almost.
"Almost" because it's mostly by AI with a slight human touch, after all.
I don't mind if you have fun with AI, that's rather a good thing. I mean, I use chatbots to ask things I am unfamiliar with. How to send a mail, how to refund a book.
But I don't rely on it completely. Since machines are not perfect either, things will get messy if you do. From fucking up your food recipe to fucking up your entire company.
Fun isn't the problem. AI contributing to people getting lazier, greedier and stupider, is. That's what I think whenever this topic gets brought up.
